What happened to New York Mayor Eric Adams was a typical phenomenon in an authoritarian regime: the party chooses someone ‘dirty’ by default, in order to keep him in line with party orders.
This is achieved by selectively prosecuting the problematic individual.
Since only the ‘dirty’ politicians are allowed to ascend to positions of power, the party can easily control them all with effective leverage.
