How should scientists, innovators, and policy makers navigate a complex geopolitical environment where leadership in S&T is foundational to national and economic security?
The Hoover Institution’s Program on the US, China, and the World, in partnership with the Asian American Scholar Forum, and Stanford University’s Doerr School of Sustainability hosted a fireside chat on Sunday, July 27, 2025, on the topic of how the United States can maintain global competitiveness and leadership in science and technology (S&T). Introduced by Glenn Tiffert, distinguished research fellow and US, China, and the World co-chair , the conversation features Hoover Institution director Condoleezza Rice in conversation with Arun Majumdar, dean of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and Hoover senior fellow. The Hoover scholars stress that safe, responsible academic partnerships and continued student exchanges can benefit both nations. Together, they explore how the US and China might find common ground amid current geopolitical tensions.
